Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The Boys of Indy 4

Being our first official post, we’ll start with the most recent movie we’ve seen at the theater. Like most of America, we saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull this past weekend. We went in with no expectations, because let’s be honest… movies haven’t been all that great lately. We avoided previews and trailers to preserve excitement and surprise… and we came out of it pleasantly… uh… surprised!

It was definitely different for an Indiana Jones movie, but it was the most fun we’ve had at the movies since Transformers last year. We won’t give away any of the twists, but it’s as good, if not better than Last Crusade. Harrison was in top form and didn’t disappoint. Shia was instantly likable and had great chemistry with both Ford and Allen [Marion from Raiders], and Kate Blanchette played a really fun villain who did a decent job with her accent…[a giant pet peeve of mine - when an actor massacres a foreign accent]. There were some great thrills and some very funny back-and-forth through the whole movie.

In terms of fun we give this movie a 4 out of 5. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen.

Iron Man

Iron Man

“Suit Up.”

As far as comic book heroes go, Iron Man is at the top of our list… because he’s F-ing COOL. Robert Downey was perfectly cast as the egotistic, brilliant Tony Stark. The visual effects of this flick were just stunning. We’re already excited for a sequel after this movie did all the set-up for the character. The story was well written and the pace was decent. I would have liked to have seen more of the final product, but as an ‘origins’ movie, it did a great job. I’m not the biggest fan of Gwyneth Paltrow, but she was believable as Pepper Potts. Seeing Jeff Bridges as a bad guy was fun, although the man is not meant to be bald. He has an enormous cranium. It took some getting used to.

We’re going to need to see this one again before it leaves theaters. It was an excellent start to the summer blockbuster season of ‘08. It would be a sin to miss it on the big screen if you’re a fan of action. If you do go, make sure to stay through the credits for a bonus scene. And there’s a great ‘easter egg’ in one of the later workshop scenes for die-hard comic book fans. We missed it the first time around, but got the skinny from a friend who’s cousin was one of the lead animators on this movie.

We give this one a 4 1/2 out of 5. Go see it!

Audi R8

Car buffs will enjoy seeing the Audi R8 featured in this movie. One of our favorite cars at the moment.  =)
