No big surprises this week. The Day The Earth Stood Still was the biggest release and it’s reflected in the numbers. It’ll be interesting to see how it does next week. I just realized Punisher 2 came out last week… I thought it was next week – it didn’t even appear on this weeks top 10. I liked the first one, and I like “Pullo” from Rome [Ray Stevenson], but from the preview it just looks bad. Yeah… it only made $4 million on it’s opening weekend. Not a good sign.

It looks like people are in the holiday mood this week with Four Christmases landing on top of the pack. I’d like to see that one, I just wanted to see Transporter 3 [review below] more and we didn’t make it back. I’m surprised that Twilight beat out Quantum of Solace this week… I wonder if ‘tween girls are seeing that one over and over. lol… I’m also surprised than Transporter didn’t do better, although after Twilight the money is spread fairly evenly across the next 4 on the list… Bolt does look pretty funny and I wouldn’t mind seeing that one – we’ll wait a few weeks after the popularity dies down so the theater isn’t so packed. My Uncle and Aunt saw Australia and liked it. They said the story was good and the pacing worked – there was enough action to keep you interested and keep it from feeling long. I don’t think we’ll get to see that one in the theater so I figured I’d pass that along…

We had a lot going on this weekend so I wasn’t able to get to the theater… My husband did. He saw Burn After Reading, and to my surprise, he didn’t like it. He said there were many funny scenes, but overall the movie was really annoying and unenjoyable because the characters were so stupid, and also because the movie just ENDED – without any kind of resolution. Occasionally, we don’t share the same opinion on these types of movies, so I’m not convinced I wouldn’t like it… but I may need to wait until it comes on video to see it at this point, since we’re leaving for vacation on Saturday. Before I go, I’ll get some more previews up, including the new Quantum of Solace trailer. Until then, here are this weekends results:

This was a slow week for movie-goers, us included. There was nothing out, that we hadn’t already seen, that made us feel compelled to get to the theater. I did want to see Traitor, with Don Cheadle. Maybe this coming weekend if it’s still in theaters.. I’d also like to see The Dark Knight and Hamlet 2 before they leave the theater, but I guess not badly enough to get me there this weekend…

Well… it looks like Hamlet 2 could end up being a ’sleeper’ – it’s not even in the top 10 this week… hopefully it’ll pick up some momentum.

I was surprised to see that Tropic Thunder beat out The Dark Knight this weekend. It was really funny [see review below]… My hubs saw The Clone Wars without me [I had a bookclub meeting]. I’ve asked him to write up a quick review that I can post for you. Hopefully he’ll find the time tonight… check back tomorrow if you’re interested in knowing how it was from a die-hard Star Wars fan.  ;)  I have to say, since he told me all about it, I want to see it now. I don’t know if the trailer did it justice…
